The 5 W's of Website Evaluation
This model for website evaluation was created by Kathy Schrock for K12 students.
The CRAAP test can be applied to articles or websites to evaluate if content is reliable. Created by staff at Meriam Library at California State University, Chico, CRAAP refers to:
- Currency: The timeliness of the information
- Relevance: The importance of the information for your needs
- Authority: The source of the information
- Accuracy: The reliability, truthfulness and correctness of the content
- Purpose: The reason the information exists

Many colleges use some form the CRAAP test.
Another similar test is CARS.
- CREDIBILITY – How do you know the information and author are authentic and reliable?
- ACCURACY - How do you know the information is up-to-date, factual, detailed, and comprehensive?
- REASONABLENESS – How do you know the information is fair, objective, moderate, and consistent?
- SUPPORT – How reliable, accurate, reasonable and well-supported are the sources for your resource?
